I'M FREEZING
As everyone knows winter is coming and its already very cold. I am living in a new house that has oil heat. The cost for me to heat my home according to my oil company and another company I call will be $717.00 a month. Donations can be made directly to Liddia, Thank You!

Find out how much to switch to natural gas. May cost less to get a new furnace and hook up than to pay three months of oil.
That's a good suggestion. By the way, did you know that:
When the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline peaked at $3.07 recently, it was partly because the nation's refineries were receiving an estimated 99 cents on each gallon sold. That was more than three times the amount they earned a year ago when regular unleaded was selling for $1.87. Companies that pump oil from the ground swept in an additional 47 cents on each gallon, a 46 percent jump over the same period. If motorists are the big losers in the spectacular run-up in gas prices, the companies that produce the oil and turn it into gasoline are the clear winners.
that comes from this article: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002519083_katgas25.html
It talks about gasoline but it's the same deal with fuel oil. We're being gouged, dude!
While the furnace idea may sound nice, I am not putting anything in the place like that. I can be tossed out at any moment!
Buy a little electric space heater
We have natural gas and its going up 70% from last year.
with all due respect....if you are in a "new house" as in just built, it shouldn't be anywhere near that to heat. You can get a portable propane fireplace with a fan and a tank outside to fuel it.... then if you leave you take it with you.
We heat our house, two stories in the winter here with a propane heater and maybe 100 bucks a month if it gets below zero.
The propane fireplaces/stoves are zero clearance and vent staight outside through a 4 inch pipe.
No not "new", just new to me. Not the same house I lived in last year.
still shouldn't be that expensive!!!
It does sound ridiculously high. Perhaps they are basing that on the people that lived there last year and their bills. Maybe they kept the heat up and the doors open or something. Regardless, maybe you could get the landlord to agree to sign something saying you could stay through the winter if you replace the furnace (check first to be sure how much that would cost).
I called 2 seperate oil distributors and both told me that the average household uses 8-10 gallons of oil a day. And that is keeping the heat below 70. I was able to get 222 gallons of oil last week (just to get ready for the cold) and it costed $543.00 and that is 2.44 a gallon. Now I had called to have the oil delivered 2 days before and the price was 2.36 a gallon. I agree that is does seem high. If it goes any higher I am in big trouble.
it's not the oil price that seems high, it's the amount of oil they are saying it will take to heat the house. We had out oil furnace and I don't think we filled it monthly.... i think maybe once the whole winter if that much.
have someone help insulate the windows and then turn of the heater vents in rooms not being used...
Burn your furniture.. that should help for awhile.
Actually this is one winter I am actually glad to have electric heat.
